CONCORD – House Majority Leader DJ Bettencourt responds to comments by former State Sen. Cilley printed in the Portsmouth Herald suggesting that Democrats have "got to be the bullet that stops them at the gates," in referring to Republicans.
“While it’s clear that the Democratic party is vehemently opposed to Republican efforts to cut spending, provide tax and regulatory relief, and grow private sector jobs, and is unafraid to engage in outrageous hyperbole, we didn’t realize just how violent their intentions were. This type of language is at best surprising and at worst shocking to the citizens of this state, especially given President Obama’s strong condemnation of this kind of language in the wake of the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona last winter. Former Sen. Cilley owes an apology to the Republicans whom she has threatened with her extreme agenda. It is appropriate that all Democrats, including Sen. Shaheen, Gov. Lynch, former Congresswoman Shea-Porter, and Minority Leader Norelli denounce this unbecoming rhetoric.”
