NH House Leader's Reaction to Gov. Announcement to Veto Gambling Bills

CONCORD - New Hampshire House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (R-Salem) today offered the following statement in reaction to Governor Lynch's announcement that he would veto any legislation allowing casinos or racinos in New Hampshire:

“This proposal in addition to bringing jobs to the state directly, would also reduce taxes on employers to create an even better environment for economic growth and job creation. Gov. Lynch suggested that he wants to help create jobs but his letter today makes clear that he is a road block in the path of getting New Hampshire citizens to work. This is a slap in the face to the 40 thousand New Hampshire residents who are currently unemployed. The Governor in his letter offered no solution on how we mitigate the substantial loss of our lottery revenue to Massachusetts through inaction in New Hampshire. I am disappointed that Gov. Lynch has chosen to take this path and watch our citizens money go to Massachusetts instead of keeping it here and attracting revenue from citizens from other states that could be used to create jobs here. Regardless of the Governor’s position, we will still continue to fight to make sure this job creating bill gets its full measure on the House floor.”
