The following statement was issued this afternoon by House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt with regard to a proposed amendment to HB 421 which would require presidential candidates to present birth certificates when filing their candidacies for the New Hampshire first-in-the-nation primary.
"House leadership will strongly oppose this amendment should it reach the House floor. It is unnecessary and detracts from important business, namely our economy. Moreover, this potential amendment could represent a threat to our first in the nation primary as it gives other states reason and desire to try to jump us in line. We are working to discourage this amendment from moving forward and will oppose it should it reach the House floor."
