NH House Leaders Comment on Resolution to Support Arizona Immigration Law

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien (R-Mont Vernon) and House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (R-Salem) offered the following comments on House Concurrent Resolution 2, which would express New Hampshire’s support of the legislation enacted by the State of Arizona in its efforts to reduce the number of illegal aliens in Arizona. The bill passed 243 to 102.

House Speaker William O’Brien

“The federal government has failed Arizona and other border states. Washington must start respecting state’s rights especially upon their failure to get the job done. We must show our full support for Arizona to ensure its right to protect the safety and financial health of its citizens. New Hampshire needs to stand shoulder to shoulder with Arizona in demanding the federal government protect our borders or stand aside as the states do so.”

House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt

“One of the Government’s most important roles is the protection of its citizens and boarders and if the federal government is unable or unwilling to do so, the states must. Arizona is well within its rights to protect their citizens and state from the financial, criminal, educational, and medical burdens of illegal immigration and we fully support their citizens in asserting their sovereignty.”
