Statue Depicting Fat, Oppressive Western World Symbolizes Copenhagen Conference

Statue Depicting Fat, Oppressive Western World Symbolizes Copenhagen Conference

In connection with the international climate meeting in Copenhagen, December 7-18, 2009, the Danish artist Jens Galschiot (AIDOH – Art In Defence Of Humanism) received permission to temporarily install a sculpture in the water about 5 m from the famous Little Mermaid. It is roughly the same size and is also cast in bronze. It depicts a very fat white woman sitting on the shoulders of a very thin African man, and obviously refers to the rich countries of the world "feeding" off the poor countries. The title of the piece is The Survival of the Fattest .

Said Americans for Limited Government president Bill Wilson of the statue, "This statue is an obscene indictment of all in Western Civilization who for centuries have worked long and hard to produce the greatest progress the world has known. Instead of being rightly depicted as generous benefactors whose inventions and innovations have moved mankind from the caves to mountaintops, they are depicted as fat, ugly oppressors riding the back of those who, in reality, they have saved by the tens of millions the world over. Barack Obama should demand that the statue be promptly removed — or openly admit it is a symbol of all that he and the global warming frauds actually believe."

NOBAMA demand it be removed? You're kidding, right?

He will probably bow to the Danish king, or any other head of government he
can find, and apologize for the exploitation and subjugation of "third world" people
by the wicked west.

Where did your values go?

What about freedom of expression?

I don't particularly like the statue either, but why should my president get involved in this?

These people and their climate change hoax are just criminal.

Chaz, freedom of expression does not absolve one of the consequences of that expression. That status was created as a direct insult against Western Civilization. Expecting the leader of our country to at the very least comment back about the insult is not unexpected.

If anything I would ask those who don't think Obama should say or do anything where your values are? Should he sit back and allow our country to be insulted?

Chaz:

This crowd loves to wallow in victimization. They sieze on any non-troversy as another example of how the world/America/civilization is collapsing and everything is stacked against them, personally. It is useless to try to reason with them or to appeal to their better natures. They are unhinged, and I very much doubt you cannot change their minds. They despise logic and are fueled primarily by fear and anger.

The reality is this piece of art represents nothing more than some guy's opinion. I think he is probably a bit of a fool, but I take his basic point- the west takes much more of the world's resources than the rest of the world, primarily for historic reasons. THis will have to change ifwe are to create a sustainable future.

The country that gave Jens Galschiot permission to place the statue is also the same country that defended the right of newspapers to publish anti-Mohammed cartoons, a position that cost them hundreds of millions in Muslim trade a few years back. Denmark is a country that says "let everybody state their opinion, we are all adults and can figure out where the truth lies". They believe in the fundamental right of free speech, and think it must be inviolable. America used to have the same values, when I was younger.

Now we have bottom-dwellers like Naile who see the worst in everything, believe they and they alone represent truth and liberty, and aren't happy unless they are destroying someone. Sad.

Raybo:

Please drop the term "unhinged" for your own sake.

Go back to Amsterdam, pick up some new mags., have an ice cream cone, scout for boys, and try and expand your vocabulary.

"Unhinged" is so Baines campaignish.
