Bettencourt Statement on Redress of Grievance Filed on Behalf of A Child Molester

Following the recent press report of Representative Lars Christiansen filing a redress of grievance on behalf of a child sex offender convicted on over 60 counts, House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (Salem) issued the following statement:

“I am extremely troubled and disappointed by Representative Christiansen’s decision to file a petition for grievance on behalf of a convicted child sex offender. The fact that he has filed this petition and subsequently declined to comment on its merits is also deeply disturbing. These kinds of crimes are some of the worst in society and are not worthy of leniency. While the New Hampshire Constitution created the process for redress of grievances, the facts of this case are such that the individual in question clearly deserves incarceration and I see no evidence that would merit neither impeachment of the judge nor criticism of our state’s parole board. The fact that he would file this petition does no service to his office or the General Court.”
