House Speaker Praises Passage of Teacher Tenure Reform

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien (R-Mont Vernon)  today praised the House for voting to pass SB 196, legislation that reforms the state’s teacher tenure laws, extends the time to receive tenure from three years to five and requires that a teacher have taught in that school district for three years.  The House voted 253 to 105 to pass the bill.

“No parent should be forced to keep their child to a classroom with a substandard teacher.  This important reform improves accountability by giving school officials more time to assess teachers to ensure that they will be providing a quality education for New Hampshire’s students.  This is an important step forward for our state,” said O’Brien.
