House Majority Leader Statement on Public Charter School Bill

CONCORD – House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (R-Salem) today offered the following statements in response to the House passing Senate Bill 82, legislation giving the state board of education permanent authority to approve chartered public schools.

“We  made it clear from the beginning of this House session when we presented our agenda that we support charter schools in New Hampshire.   This form of education offers a proven alternative path for those students who need it.  We strongly support the right of parents to determine the best means of educating their children.   This legislation is about the state treating all students fairly.  By giving the state board of education the authority to approve chartered public schools, it will ultimately offer parents the ability to educate their children where and how they see fit.”
