House Republicans Leaders Statement on Passage of Bill to Affirm Second Amendment Rights

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien (R-Mont Vernon) and D.J. Bettencourt (R-Salem) today offered the following statements in response to the House passing Senate Bill 88, legislation to affirm 2nd Amendment rights in New Hampshire, by a vote of 248 to 111.

House Speaker William O’Brien

“New Hampshire has always led the nation in demonstrating responsible firearm ownership.  This legislation ensures that lawful gun owners will have their rights respected across the Granite State.  By giving our citizens the right to stand their ground when they are threatened, assuring their constitutional right to carry firearms and removing the risk of a crime when displaying protective devices, we are sending a clear message that our state trusts our residents to use firearms in a safe a responsible manner.”

House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt

“This is a common sense bill that protects lawful gun owners.  Republicans are committed to delivering responsible laws that ensure that the 2nd Amendment is upheld in New Hampshire.  This legislation is an important step in keeping our citizens safe and defending our freedoms.”
