NH House leadership statement on HB 536; Gun Rights

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien and House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt today released the following statement on House Bill 536, a constitutional carry bill, which passed the House,  193 to 122. The bill asserts the natural right to carry a firearm, openly or concealed, without a license.

 House Speaker William O’Brien

“The state of Vermont does not require a concealed carry permit and joins New Hampshire in being the safest state in the nation. Both our federal and state constitutions assert our rights to keep and bear arms. This alone should serve as a license to carry a firearm. The added safety of ourselves and our neighbors further recommends this legislation.”

 House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt

"Republicans strongly believe that the Second Amendment is a Constitutional guarantee on the rights of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.  New Hampshire has a low crime rate and we believe that it is because we have some of the least onerous gun regulations in the country.  As part of our Republican agenda, we promised to address some fundamental concerns about our rights and we are constantly working to correct these problems.  HB 536 addresses a natural right to carry a firearm and the law has worked for our neighboring State of Vermont for decades."

Maybe I missed something but since when do we want to be just like Vermont? I mean, they even have the Northeast Kingdom. Kingdom. And this is what we want for our state too? Not me, thanks.

Thanks for your advise, Tim. I'm also free to stay. That's the joy of freedom. I get to choose without explaining myself to you.

I get accused here of cherry picking my comments to suit my arguement. But now that Vermont, the state of the Northeast Kingdom and the only openly socialist senator, does ONE thing that you people approve of, it's great to be just like them. Once again, I'm forced to call you hypocrites.

O'brien needs to brush up on the difference between a license (something granted by the Nanny State), and a right (something inherent to a free person). The NH Constitution merely points out a pre-existent Right – yes, a redundancy.
