President Barack Obama was trying to prevent serious budget cuts that a year ago would have hurt Americans. He thought the sequester would bring even right-wing Republicans to their senses. That it didn't is a poor testimony to them, not him.

Those who are being hurt today are those who know that government serves a purpose, and they work in government to fulfill their ideals of helping others. And those being hurt today are those who need help from OUR government -- THEIR government. We're letting them down. And that's not the fault of President Obama.
