NRN - Harmful Regulations Video Contest

From NetRightNation.com:

The EPA has decided to start a video contest, seeking to gather films promoting government regulations. The prize is $2,500 of stolen cash from the taxpayer.

Screw that.

Americans for Limited Government/NetRight Nation and the Fr33 Agents Network have announced that we will host our own contest. The reward is $2,500 not stolen from the tax payers. Here are the rules to enter:

  1. Create a video promoting how government regulations have harmed business in your area. Get creative. Examples: a video showing the rising cost of food prices due to government subsidies or the FDA preventing the release of life saving medications. Think outside the box and show us how government regulations are harming you!
  2. Post your video to YouTube. Send the link to Adam@netrightnation.com
  3. Two weeks from now, on May 4, we will post the top selection of videos that have been entered. We will also announce the judges for the contest that will narrow down the field to the best video entry in the coming week. Also, we will post your video submissions as they come in.
  4. We will announce a winner on May 11 and they will receive the $2,500 cash prize that has not been stolen from the taxpayer!

So get to work and start making some videos!

NRN - Real Science Should Trump Politics

Bill Wilson, the author of the below post, is the President of Americans for Limited Government of which NetRight Nation is part.

From the Washington Examiner:

Remember when President Obama vowed to "restore science to its rightful place?" His inaugural commitment, followed by executive orders, carried a message that methodologically sound science would trump politicized, ideological science.

It turns out, however, that the president's love affair with science isn't quite as clear-cut as it first seemed. Shortly after his inaugural pledge, Obama issued an Executive Order directing his chief science advisor to ensure that administration policies be based on sound science.

The EO called for the appointment of science advisers on credentials rather than political leanings, and transparency about scientific decisions. "The public must be able to trust the science and scientific process informing public policy decisions," he said. One year later, Obama has yet to earn a passing grade on his scientific integrity pledge.

For one thing, Obama simply has not acted, a point driven home by the nonprofit Union of Concerned Scientists, a left-wing advocacy group that normally supports the administration. They point out that Obama last year called for a science strategy to be developed within 120 days of his inauguration.

Yet the Office of Science and Technology Policy has still not finalized a plan, which leads to uneven application among federal agencies.

Other shortcomings are apparent as well. Sunshine is indeed a disinfectant, allowing the public to identify ideologically-based "science" that has driven public policy decisions in the wrong direction.

But too many Freedom of Information Act requests for underlying scientific data used to formulate conclusions still languish too long in federal bureaucracies, effectively denying the public from being able to identify ideologically-driven "science".

Foot-dragging on transparency is one of Obama's greatest failures. He still has not established guidelines for promoting open communication among scientists, the media, policymakers and the public. Nor has it set a process to release all scientific papers early in the policy process, before they might be altered by political appointees.

Another troublesome development involves the scientific advisory panels that are vital in agencies, especially the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). For example, an FDA scientific advisory panel was directed by Congress last year to make recommendations on the impact of menthol in cigarettes. It's a question for which sound scientific studies would seem to be needed.

Yet, according to one Wall Street analyst, some members of the administration-appointed panel have already come out for a menthol ban. And yet others have what appears to be a clear conflict of interest as they have worked for pharmaceutical firms that sell smoking cessation products. Given these viewpoints and conflicts, it's questionable whether the public could trust their analysis.

It's a bit like having a Red Sox fan call balls and strikes at a Yankees baseball game

To "restore science to its proper place," the Administration still must convince the public that it has washed ideologically biased science from government and that appointees to scientific positions throughout government are dedicated to methodologically sound science, not to a pre-determined agenda.

It may be that the Obama administration never really had any intention of doing what it discussed with lofty rhetoric in its executive orders. If that is the case, substituting left-wing "science" under the ruse of "sound science" is no way to ensure that the public trusts the scientific process, and ultimately for the Obama Administration trust is the issue.

NRN - By Following Obama, Vulnerable House Democrats are Sealing their Own Fates

Despite the mainstream media's attempts to downplay the national backlash against government-run health care, the word is out and the American people are clearly fed up with Barack Obama's endless attempts to force "ObamaCare" down their throats.

The polling speaks for itself. The latest Rasmussen Reports survey indicates that a significant majority of Americans oppose the healthcare plan that the Democrat hegemony in Washington has proposed. This sentiment is clearly echoed in the latest Obama job approval poll from Gallup as well, in which the President finds himself firmly in hostile territory (47% disapprove, 46% approve).

Most interesting of all, however, is how this public opinion is playing out on a local level in places such as Benson, Arizona; Butler, Pennsylvania; or Southhaven, Mississippi. While the Democrats might be busy making a big splash in Washington, D.C., the ripples are being felt in places like these and many others across the nation. And the "ripples" are quite significant.

A recent batch of polling data regarding individual House Democrats in crucial swing districts indicates just how outraged their constituents are—and it all hinges on ObamaCare.

The polls, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research and commissioned by Americans for Limited Government, asked a sample of 400 voters in each district some very simple questions. The survey gauged voters' overall views on health care reform, whether they would likely support a candidate who votes for health care reform, and whether they would likely support their specific Congressman should he or she vote for health care reform.

The results were overwhelmingly conclusive. In nearly every congressional district surveyed, voters made it clear that they do not support ObamaCare and will not vote for the incumbent Democrat should he or she vote in favor of ObamaCare. It's almost insultingly obvious.

Simply put, never before has a single national issue played such an influential local role in district after district.

First of all, consider Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota. Ever since he took office in 1993, this Democrat has handedly been reelected again and again, even getting 61.97 percent of the vote in 2008. Although a Republican hasn't held the congressional seat since 1980, everything may be about to change.

Representative Pomeroy, who voted "yes" on ObamaCare, is in big trouble according to the ALG poll. 50 percent of his voters say they will be less likely to vote for him if he continues to support the bill, whereas only 42 percent would support him. Likewise, 59 percent of independents would likely vote against their candidate should he vote for ObamaCare. Also of note is that voters in his distinct decisively oppose the bill by about a 2.5 to 1 margin.

Another "yes" vote for ObamaCare is Congressman Harry Mitchell of Arizona's 5th District—and his numbers are even worse than Pomeroy's. According to the poll, 60 percent of voters said they would be less likely to vote for Representative Mitchell in November if he continues to vote in favor of Obamacare. As with Pomeroy's, voters in his district oppose the health care bill by a 2.76 to 1 margin.

A third one worth mentioning is Bill Owens, the newly elected Democrat in New York's 23rd district. Although slightly safer than the two aforementioned congressmen, Representative Owens is hurting his already slim reelection chances by supporting ObamaCare. He may have been able to eke out a win last November by winning over the independents, but according to the ALG poll, a majority of Independent, unaffiliated voters will likely vote against Rep. Owens if he votes for ObamaCare this week, or next. Also, his district opposes the legislation by a nearly 2 to 1 margin.

Even Democrats who have already voted against ObamaCare are in trouble…simply by having a "D" next to their names and not taking a harder stand on the issue. 58 percent of Betsy Markey's (D-CO4) constituents said they would vote against her if she votes in favor of ObamaCare. This includes a stunning 71 percent of independents.

Similarly, 66 percent of independent voters in Representative John Boccierri's OH-16 district said they would not support him should he vote in favor of ObamaCare.

The full results of all 15 polls can be viewed here, including the polls' crosstabs.

The lesson from these polls is rather simple: if any of these vulnerable Democrats want to survive politically, they must vote against ObamaCare. And they must do it proudly and decisively. It's the only chance they've got.

Taking a halfhearted stand against the legislation won't be enough. Voters are sick and tired and won't accept any more excuses. Bold and decisive leadership—the kind of leadership that enthusiastically shouts "No!" to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid and "Yes!" to the people—is what they want.

One very immediate way these Democrats can begin to make amends today is by thwarting the so-called "Slaughter Solution", a maneuver that would "deem" ObamaCare legislation into law and circumvent a traditional up or down vote. As ALG News has previously reported, such a maneuver is blatantly unconstitutional and is a desecration of the American system of representative government.

Rep. Parker Griffith (a former Democrat, ironically enough) has sponsored a resolution to stop the "Slaughter Solution" in its tracks and every vulnerable Democrat would be wise to join alongside him.

Voters are not merely outraged with ObamaCare in and of itself, but outraged with the process that Democrats have gone about in this legislative escapade. From this new "Slaughter Solution", backroom bribes, secret deals, changing the rules or ignoring the rules, the process is equally as corrupt as the product itself.

For these vulnerable Democrats in these crucial swing districts, the choice they make this week will have career-altering ramifications come November. The dilemma is as simple as it is seismic: kill the bill or kill their careers.

Even a Congressman should have enough common sense to make the right choice.

NRN - The ObamaCare Lies Thicken in Ohio

From NetRightNation.com:

Take a look at Obama's remarks from yesterday in Strongsville, Ohio. The lies that he gets away with are amazing!

Obama says: "My proposal would bring down the cost of health care for families, businesses, and for the federal government. So, Americans buying comparable coverage to what they have today, I already said this, would see premiums fall by 14 to 20 percent. That's aren't my numbers, that's what the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says. For Americans who get their insurance through the workplace, how many people get insurance through your jobs right now, raise your hands. Well a lot of those folks, its your employer, it estimated, would see costs could fall by as much as 3,000 percent. That means they could give you a raise."(President Barack Obama, Remarks of President Barack Obama, Strongesville, OH, 3/15/10)

Here's the thing though, Dick Durbin doesn't believe it. And guess what, there is video saying so:

According to Durbin: "Anyone Who Would Stand Before You And Say Well, If You Pass Health Care Reform, Next Year's Health Care Premiums Are Going Down, I Don't Think Is Telling The Truth. I Think It Is Likely They Would Go Up, But What We're Trying To Do Is Slow The Rate Of Increase." (Sen. Durbin, Floor Remarks, 3/10/10)

Oh, and Obama endorsed a bill that would raise premiums... That's right, Obama Endorsed Senate Dems' Bill That Would Raise Premiums For Americans Purchasing Insurance Individually. "CBO and JCT estimate that the average premium per person covered (including dependents) for new nongroup policies would be about 10 percent to 13 percent higher in 2016 than the average premium for nongroup coverage in that same year under current law." (Douglas W. Elmendorf, Letter To Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN), 11/30/09

Is anyone going to call him out on this?
