Timbersports on ESPN II.

Part of my summer is taken up with working on the Stihl Timbersports Series, a competition between athletes who chop and saw matched wood, provided by the company I work for, Granite State Lumberjack Shows, with axes, crosscut saws, and chainsaws. There is about a quarter of a million dollars in prize money at stake.

I run equipment, drive big trucks cross country, help turn the wood on a lathe occassionally, but for the most part I trim with a Stihl chainsaw, blocks of competition wood that are about to be set up by competitors or cut a fresh square surface on blocks that are set up in between saw heats. I have been doing this for about 12 years.

When we finish with the ESPN Stihl Timbersports Series filming, done by JM Productions, they take off for fishing competitions and races in other parts of the country while we wait for the collection of film from that years series to be edited and ready for airing. Sometimes the film crew will put together an edited collection of the early shows for us to see at the last event we hold. I have not seen any footage from this year's events yet so Sunday should be fun. One of the guys from the JM film crew who operates the body-mounted steady cam puts a bloopers tape together once in a while. They are quite creative and so far none of the competitors has caused him serious harm.

What we filmed in June and July here in the US where I worked as well as the European competition will be shown on ESPN II from this Sunday into December until re-runs start.

You have to check local listings but the dates so far are:

December 2, 12:00 - 1:30 Decatur, Alabama and Debuque, Iowa shows
