I have been out of state working lumberjack competitions recently and just arrived back in NH to four inches of snow. This quite a shock as Athens, Georgia where the first event was held has people mowing lawns among the peach blossoms.
"Granite State Lumberjacks" I have worked for 20 years is the backbone of Stihl Timbersports, an international competition of specific woodsman disciplines which include cross cut saws, axes, chainsaws and super-modified hot saws.
The shows this year are part of a collegiate series being held in Ga. Ca. In. Pa. NY. American finals will be in Oregon in August and international championships in Holland.
The latest event is not up on the web yet but here is an example of a college event from last year:
And a sample of the finals in Oregon from last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4_RoBxeOH8
The show last week started at 6 pm and went on until 1:30 am – and the crowd of college students stuck around cheering the entire time.
Off the Cal-Poly Wednesday for the western enclave.
A nice change from politics.
