The Urine Test

by Anonymous

Like alot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.

In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.

I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butts, doing drugs, while I work. . . .

Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

I too have lived under the tyranny of urine tests for far too long. I have a problem with it because I feel that unless I have a job where other's lives are in my hands, I shouldn't have to do this. What I do at home is no one's business as long as my work performance is not affected. The strange thing is that you can't even smoke a single joint because you will be "hot" for up to six weeks, while plenty of people including pilots, cops, etc. have switched to cocaine because it is out of your system in three days. I have worked in places where drug testing is a policy yet some mornings you have to wait in line for the bathroom behind the younger kids are busy puking because they are so hung over for boozing all night. There simply is no justice for potheads anymore! Rep. Splaine, can you do something about this please?

Indy,

As long as you receive a paycheck from somebody, it's their call. If you don't want the paycheck, that's fine with me. If you want to toke and snort, go into business for yourself. Just put a postit on you forehead that says "User." And the high risk job argument is BS. What about food preparers, people stocking high store shelves, driving fork lifts, using electrical devices, day care centers, handling my credit card, etc. etc.? And don't tell me that you reserve your coke for weekends and off days only. I don't believe you.

There are two problems here...

1) Smoking a joint shouldn't be illegal in the first place. However employers can and should be able to set whatever policy they wish on your employment. If they want to test your breath for alcohol that too should be something can should have the right to do.

2) Welfare should be abolished. Others should not have any right to what someone takes home unless that person wishes to give it to help them. This is NOT the same as unemployment as those who work pay into unemployment so if they lose their jobs it is their own money they are getting back. Someone collecting welfare however is not paying in... they are simply collecting.

dave, take a chill pill. That's what most people do nowadays anyway, they abuse prescriptions rather than "illicit" drugs. There's more people out there driving around whacked out on pills their doctors keep feeding them than drunks and stoners combined. I haven't done that stuff since I was in college other than when I had cancer and I used medicinal marijuana (and it worked too). Please don't be so self-righteous.

If being asked to pee in a cup has become an accepted practice by "free" people in order to gain employment, how long will it be before they submit to genetic testing for that same job? I'm sure employers are tired of paying health care costs for the obeese and chronically ill. If the Goverment gave them permission to do that too, who will be "allowed" to work at the Gatica factory?
