From The Office of Congressman Charles Bass
Washington , D.C. - U.S. Representative Charles Bass (R-NH02) applauded the passage last night of $1 billion in additional funding for the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) .
"Energy assistance is crucial to many citizens in New Hampshire ,"said Bass. "Although this winter has been more mild than it could have been, the higher prices for heating oil, propane, and electricity have placed too many people into potentially dangerous and unhealthy situations."
Bass was the primary sponsor of the effort to add $1 billion to the Deficit Reduction Act, which passed the House late last year with the additional LIHEAP support. That funding was stripped during conference with the Senate, which resulted in the need for last night's action.
"I am pleased that these months of hard work by many of us in the northeast resulted in this relief, "concluded Bass. "I intend to work on more dedicated and certain funding mechanisms for this program over the next few months so that our states, community action agencies, and citizens are not left in the cold during future funding debates."
