Sullivan Backs Censure Resolution
(MANCHESTER) State Rep. Peter Sullivan today voiced his support for Senator Russell Feingold's resolution to censure President George W. Bush. Feingold's resolution condemns the President for authorizing illegal wiretaps and for misleading Congress and the public about the scope and legality of the wiretapping program.
Sullivan is the first candidate for Congress in New Hampshire's first congressional district to voice his support for the Feingold resolution.
"America is a nation where the rule of law is sacred. Unfortunately, the President has chosen to circumvent the law and to attempt to bypass congressional scrutiny. Such actions are reprehensible and deserve sterncondemnation. Senator Feingold's resolution provides that condemnation", said Sullivan.
"Contrary to the assertions of the White House, this is not about national security. Of course the United States should conduct wiretaps against suspected terrorists. The problem is that the Administration has chosen to pursue a path that attempts to place its own whims above the reasonable, established law set fort in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. That sets a dangerous precedent that no American should accept".
"It is increasingly apparent that the President violated the law. It is time for Congress to show courage and principles and hold the President accountable for his actions".
Rep. Peter Sullivan is serving his third term as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. An attorney and a former Army National Guard officer, he is a member of the House Criminal JusticeCommittee.
