CONCORD , NH – The New Hampshire Republican State Committee unanimously adopted a resolution supporting New Hampshire’s First in the Nation Primary status. Over three hundred State Committee members voted unanimously in favor of a resolution that was submitted by Republican National Committee woman Nancy Merrill.

“The Republican Party has clearly demonstrated its resolve for keeping New Hampshire’s long-standing First in the Nation primary status. Republicans understand that the first primary is an enormous political privilege that we will continue to honor and pledge the same total commitment and focus that we have demonstrated for over half a century,” stated NH Republican State Committee Chairman Wayne Semprini. “While Democrats continue to play politics with the primary, Republicans will fight to keep New Hampshire First in the Nation.”

The following resolution was adopted at the NH Republican State Committee Annual Meeting held Saturday, March 25, 2006 in Milford.

WHEREAS, we, the New Hampshire Republican State Committee, recognize the important role that New Hampshire plays as the First in the Nation Primary; and

WHEREAS, the NHRSC fully supports New Hampshire’s long-standing role, one held since 1920; and

WHEREAS, the NHRSC knows that our First in the Nation Primary has well served the ideals of American democracy, allowing candidates to meet one on one, and speak face to face with voters, for nearly an entire century;

THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the NHRSC supports the setting of the date of the NH Presidential Primary at any time chosen by the Secretary of State, according to our state law, to protect our tradition of the lead off status in conjunction with the State of Iowa.
