CONCORD, NH – Senator Lou D’Allesandro commends passage today of SB 294, legislation authorizing the Department of Safety to hire additional state troopers, by the New Hampshire House.
SB 294 allows the state to add 7 state troopers to the 287 authorized troopers currently serving.
“Safety on our highways is critical, and SB 294 provides added protection for New Hampshire citizens,” stated Senator D’Allesandro, Deputy Senate Democratic Leader.
Sen. D’Allesandro sponsored SB 294 in an effort to address the growing problem of overcrowded roads and highways in New Hampshire. New Hampshire currently has the least number of state troopers per population of all surrounding states.
“Although the House removed funding for the new positions, I’m confident the Legislature can find a way to fund additional troopers,” added Sen. D’Allesandro.
State troopers are the first line of defense, and respond around the clock to problems that arise.
“I want to thank my House colleagues for their support of this important legislation and emphasize the need to fund these additional troopers,” concluded Senator D’Allesandro.
