CANDIA – The only officially announced candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination will be joining Bob Bruce, candidate for Executive Councilor from District 4, at a campaign fundraiser in Manchester this Wednesday, June 21st.
Former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska is making a foray into the Granite State to build support for his own campaign, while lending support to New Hampshire Democratic candidates.
Gravel was a highly respected member of the Senate, where he served from 1969 to 1981.
He sat on a number of influential committees, including Finance, Interior, Environment and Public Works. Gravel also chaired the Energy, Water Resources and Environmental Pollution subcommittees.
Priorities of his presidential agenda include rebuilding the nation’s transportation system and upgrading America’s national infrastructure, Social Security reform, enacting a system of universal health care, and organizing a multinational intelligence and police organization to root out terrorism and deal with the issues which serve to breed new terrorists.
His top priority, however, is ensuring that the educational system receives the funding it needs to develop the next generation of American leaders and innovators.
“I’m proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with such a well-respected statesman as Senator Gravel,” said Bruce. “I believe one thing we share is our sense of independence; our desire to put the needs of the people – of our constituents – ahead of all else.”
Elected officials are ‘hired’ by the people to represent their best interests,” Bruce continued. “Senator Gravel, during his 12 years in the Senate, provided a great example as a dedicated public servant who did just that. That is the kind of example I am determined to set as a member of the Executive Council.”
Thursday’s fundraiser will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the function room at Raxx Billiards, 1195 Elm Street, Manchester. A pre-event reception with Senator Gravel will start at 5 p.m.
