STRAFFORD COUNTY DEMOCRATS ELECT NEW PARTY OFFICERS

GOFFSTOWN, June 3 – Strafford County Democrats today elected Joan Flood
Ashwell of Durham Strafford County Democratic Committee chair at the party’s
biennial caucus at the New Hampshire Democratic Party convention at Saint
Anselm’s College in Goffstown today. Ashwell succeeds Carole Appel of Dover,
who stepped down after ten years as chair. Appel was elected vice-chair at
today’s caucus.

Connie Margowski, the chair of the Somersworth Democratic Committee, was
elected treasurer and Bill McCann, chair of the Dover Democratic Committee,
was re-elected secretary.

Ashwell has been active in Democratic affairs in Strafford County as
campaign manager for Senator Iris Estabrook’s 2004 re-election campaign. She
was also a staffer for Martha Fuller Clark’s congressional campaigns in 2000
and 2002 and an organizer for the John Kerry primary campaign and
Kerry-Edwards general election campaign in 2004.

“Strafford County is the Democratic heartland of New Hampshire,” Ashwell
said. “We look forward to helping Gov. Lynch win a well-deserved second
term, build our numbers in the House and Senate and take back our seat in
Congress. We’re building on the momentum of 2004 and expect an even better
year in 2006.”

The state convention unanimously passed a resolution honoring Appel for her
years of service as chair, saying “her insight and experience make our Party
stronger.”
