Affordable housing non-profit honored for Millview Apartments development
(Washington, D.C.) - First District Congressman Jeb Bradley yesterday presented Laconia Area Community Land Trust (LACLT) with a tax credit excellence award from the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition(AHTCC) at a luncheon ceremony on Capitol Hill. LACLT received an honorable mention in the rural housing category for its Millview Apartments development, an 18-unit rental housing facility for tenants earning between 40 and 60 percent of area median income. Linda Harvey, the executive director of LACLT, was in Washington to accept the award.
"Millview performs a vital service to the Laconia community, providing affordable housing and support services to over 18 families in need," stated Bradley. "Today's award is indicative of how programs such as Millview can strengthen family stability and enhance self-sufficiency among low and moderate income families. Millview is a model for other affordable housing developments across the state and is truly deserving of this award."
Every year, AHTCC honors outstanding housing developments that were funded in part by the low-income housing tax credit. In 2004, LACLT redeveloped the abandoned Vernitron factory site in Laconia to create five colonial-style buildings containing 18 new apartments for low and moderate income families. Millview also offers full-time Resident Service Coordinators who provide support services such as budgeting instruction, education, job training and health referrals.
