GUINTA TO FORM SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO IDENTIFY CITY SAVINGS

Manchester- Mayor Frank C. Guinta today announced that he would be forming a committee of business leaders to focus on identifying savings in City Government. The first assignment for this special committee will be to identify the $390,000 in city savings to cover the $3 car registration fee hike included and passed in the Aldermanic Budget but vetoed by the Mayor last Tuesday.

Mayor Frank C.

"I could not, in good conscience, allow the Aldermen to pass a hidden tax to cover their increase in spending," Guinta said. "That aside, the Aldermen did pass a budget that included this fee increase, so it is now up to me to protect the taxpayers from being subject to further tax hikes."

"The goal of my administration has always been to ensure that Manchester offers the best city services at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers," Guinta added. "I am very excited that I will have an advisory committee that is able to really analyze how we do business in the city and recommend lower-cost alternatives."

The members of the Mayor’s special committee to identify city savings will be named in the coming weeks. They will have until the end of September to present their findings to the Mayor.
