DOVER – Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner will be the featured speaker at the Strafford County Democratic Victory Dinner on Fri., Sept. 22 at The Governor ’s Inn, 78 Wakefield St. in Rochester, N.H.

“We’re inviting Democrats, Republicans and independents to join us to unite for victory in November, “ said Strafford County Democratic Committee chair Joan Ashwell.

“Gov. Lynch and our outstanding candidates for Congress, Executive Council, the legislature and county offices are working to bring a brighter future to New Hampshire and the nation and insure all of our citizens have a chance to succeed,” Ashwell said. “Working together, we can expand our economy, bring new jobs to New Hampshire, improve education, increase access to affordable, quality health care and protect our special quality of life.”

“We’re delighted Gov. Mark Warner will join us to underline our message of unity, renewal and a brighter future,” She said.

Gov. Warner, a potential candidate for the party’s presidential nomination in 2008, was elected governor of Virginia in 2001. When he left office in January of this year, Warner registered an 80 percent approval rating. While in office he turned a $6 billion state budget deficit into a surplus, passed a tax reform bill and allowed the largest single investment in K-12 education in Virginia history. Virginia law prevented him from running for a second consecutive term, but his performance in office helped his lieutenant governor win election to succeed him in the predominantly Republican state.

Gov. Warner earned his law degree from Harvard and co-founded the telecommunications company Nextel. He now serves as the chairman of the Forward Together PAC and has been listening to voters and working to support Democratic candidates across the country.

“The real issues we face are no longer right vs. left or conservative vs. liberal,” Gov. Warner says, “They're about past vs. future. Our challenge, as Democrats, is to reclaim our role as the party of the future.”

The Strafford County Victory Dinner will begin at 7 pm and be preceded by a reception at 6 pm. Dinner tickets are $30, two for $50. Sponsorships which include a reception with Gov. Warner and two dinner tickets are also available: Friend, $150; Patron; $250; Benefactor: $350.
