DOVER – Democratic candidates for county, state and national office will be on hand to greet fairgoers today as the 131st annual Rochester Fair opens its ten-day run at the fairgrounds in the Lilac City.

The Strafford County Democratic Committee will operate a booth in the Exhibition Hall at the Fair through Sept. 24. The booth will feature information and campaign materials on Gov. John Lynch, congressional candidate Carol Shea-Porter and Strafford County candidates for Executive Council, the state Senate, state House of Representatives and county offices. Fairgoers will have the chance to learn about the local Democratic organization and how to get involved in the fall campaign.

Local candidates will be on hand every day during the Fair to meet voters and discuss the issues. State Senate Jackie Cilley will visit on Weds., Sept. 20. She is running in District 6 that includes Rochester, Somersworth, Barrington, Madbury and Nottingham.

Several nationally known Democratic leaders and potential presidential candidates are also expected to greet fairgoers. Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner is scheduled to visit on Fri., Sept. 22.

Additional candidate visits will be announced in coming days as their schedules are finalized.

     The Rochester Fair is expected to attract more than 125,000 visitors before it closes on Sept. 24.
