(MANCHESTER)- State Rep. Peter Sullivan today declined to accept the Democratic Party's nomination for Hillsborough County Attorney.

Sullivan, a member of the House Criminal Justice Committee, received 249 write-in votes for the office in the September 12 primary election.

"While I am flattered that so many Democrats and Independents expressed their support for a campaign for county attorney, I have decided to decline the nomination", said Sullivan. "As I said during the summer, this is a time when I must focus on my personal and professional life. While public life is important, there are other parts of my life that must take precedence. At some time in the future, I may enter the electoral arena again, but that time will not be this fall".

Rep. Sullivan was unaware of the write-in campaign until the day of the primary election. The write-in effort was organized by members of the state and local Democratic Party and not by Sullivan himself.
