Cate Edwards and Kate Michelman Announce NH Women for Edwards
Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 07:10AM 433 New Hampshire Women Endorse Senator John Edwards, Campaign Unveils www.johnedwards.com/nh/women
(Manchester, NH) - Today, Cate Edwards and Kate Michelman announced the formation of New Hampshire Women for Edwards during two days of Graniteroots campaigning. 433 New Hampshire women have joined the group and endorsed Senator John Edwards because of his bold policies to support women by providing universal health care, fighting poverty, and standing up for a woman's right to choose.
The campaign also unveiled its New Hampshire Women for Edwards web page, which can be viewed at www.johnedwards.com/nh/women and will feature information about John Edwards' positions on issues that are important to women. On Saturday, November 10th at 2:30pm, the web site will feature a live webcast in which Cate and Kate will answer voter questions.
“John Edwards has been a life-long advocate for fair wages, universal health care and a woman's right to choose,” said Maureen Raiche Manning, Founder and Past President of the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association and Former Chair of the New Hampshire Women’s Lobby. “He has stood up for working women and that's why I'm standing with him.”
“We need a president who is offering real proposals and ideas on the issues that matter most to women and families and John Edwards will be that president,” said State Representative Sharon Nordgren. “He has the best chance to bring a truly progressive agenda to the White House next November.”
“I am honored that so many New Hampshire women would join us in supporting my father for President," said Cate Edwards. "My father has been a tireless advocate for women's issues his whole life, and he'll continue fighting for us as president.”
"I believe John is the best candidate to push a progressive agenda that will support women across America," said Kate Michelman, former President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. "He stands up for what he believes in, and he has never backed down or retreated from a woman's right to choose. As a lawyer, a senator, the father of two daughters, and as a husband, he understands that equality for women is something we're still fighting for, and he'll never rest until we achieve it."
This announcement came during Cate Edwards' first solo campaign trip to New Hampshire this cycle. She joined the rest of the Edwards family during the 'Fighting for One America' bus tour in August, which she blogged about at www.johnedwards.com/nh.
It is Kate Michelman's third trip to New Hampshire in support of John Edwards. She visited New Hampshire with John Edwards in March and with Elizabeth Edwards in April.
John Edwards will return to New Hampshire for his 19th trip on November 12th and 13th.
