DHHS Recognizes World Aids Day 2007

Concord, NH:  The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is announcing events being held in New Hampshire in recognition of World Aids Day, Saturday December 1, 2007. According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children.

In the past year alone more than 2.5 million people were newly infected with the virus. Nearly half of all those infected with HIV, become infected before the age of 25, and die of AIDS before the age of 35. World AIDS Day started December 1, 1988, not just as an effort to raise money but also to help increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. World AIDS Day reminds everyone HIV has not gone away.
