Sullivan Opposes Pay Raise Proposal

(MANCHESTER)- Alderman-elect Peter Sullivan today voiced his opposition to City Clerk Leo Bernier's proposal to quadruple the salary of Manchester's aldermen.

"This proposal is an insult to the taxpaying public. Holding elected office is about serving the public, not making a buck", said Sullivan. "The current aldermanic salary is entirely reasonable, and there is absolutely no reason for an increase".

"Manchester faces significant challenges in the areas of public safety, education, and economic development which will put a significant strain on our resources. We have to set priorities carefully, and there's no way that lining our own pockets should be part of the discussion".

Peter Sullivan was elected alderman from Ward 3 on November 6, 2007. An attorney, Sullivan served for three terms as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
