Edwards Campaign - Doris 'Granny D' Haddock Kicks Off Graniteroots Canvass in Swanzey

(Manchester, NH) – This morning at 10:00am, grassroots icon and John Edwards endorser Doris ‘Granny D’ Haddock joined Graniteroots volunteers for a canvass kickoff in Swanzey to help spread Edwards’ bold message of change.

“In my 97 years, I have seen many politicians come and go,” said Granny D. “Now more than ever, we need a leader who has the courage, the backbone and the integrity to stand up to the corporations and special interests in Washington, to deliver universal health care and energy independence, to fight for the middle class, and to finally bring about public financing of our elections. John Edwards is that man, and I’m proud to support him in this campaign.”

Granny D is a legendary advocate for campaign finance reform who walked 3,200 miles across America in 1999 – at the age of 89 – in support of the McCain-Feingold legislation. An HBO documentary entitled ‘Run Granny Run’ was released recently that documents her amazing journey. She officially endorsed John Edwards for president at a town hall in Keene on December 18th.

“I’m extremely proud to have Granny D’s support in this race,” said Senator Edwards. “Her amazing commitment to building a grassroots movement to return power to regular people is an inspiration, and I couldn’t ask for a better ally in the fight to take back our party, our government and our country.”

Granny D joined volunteers in Swanzey this morning as Graniteroots momentum for John Edwards continues to grow across the state. The Edwards campaign has opened a total of 17 offices across the state in order to accommodate the rapidly growing number of canvassers, phone bankers and volunteers working for change.
