Loie Fecteau, Executive Director of New Mexico Arts to Stump NH for Bill Richardson

Loie Fecteau, Executive Director of New Mexico Arts, will stump the Granite State this week for Governor Bill Richardson. Fecteau, who also serves a sNew Mexico State Captain of Americans for the Arts, will be the guest of honor in a series of house parties and gallery receptions where she will discuss Bill Richardson’s support for the arts.

The Arts and Public Policy discussions will focus on New Mexico’s success in using art to promote tourism and generate a creative economy, and the emphasis on the arts in Bill Richardson’s education plan. On Monday morning, Loie Fecteau will join New Hampshire state representative Jane Beaulieu at Jewell and the Beanstock Café for a “Conversation on Arts in America.” All events are free and open to the public.

Loie Fecteau Biography:

Loie Fecteau is executive director of New Mexico Arts, the state arts agency,which is a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs. New Mexico Arts has a staff of 16 and an annual budget of $2.6 million, which includes about $900K in annual grants to nonprofit arts organizations in New Mexico. Fecteau also serves as the director of the 15-member New Mexico Arts Commission, the advisory body to New Mexico Arts, whose members are appointed by the governor. She grew up in Massachusetts and was appointed to her post in early 2004 by Gov. Bill Richardson. She has a strong interest in arts education and in using the arts to promote economic development and cultural tourism across New Mexico, particularly in rural areas. Fecteau also serves as the New Mexico State Captain for Americans for the Arts, the national arts advocacy group. Earlier in her career, Loie covered politics in New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Loie Fecteau has a lifelong passion for the arts and is a strong literacy advocate. While living in Branford, Conn., she served on the development committee for the Blackstone Memorial Library and helped to secure funding for renovations to make the historic public building ADA accessible. She has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and a BA in English from Marietta College in Ohio. She fell in love with New Mexico when she was 11 years old and has lived in Santa Fe since 1997. Loie has strong ties to New England and her father's family is from New Hampshire.
