“Rep. Shea-Porter has taken her war protester mentality to the extreme. First she served cider to war protesters outside her office. Then she told military families she doesn’t consider them her constituents. Now she’s gone back on her commitment to support our soldiers in the field. It’s one thing to be in favor of bringing the war to a conclusion, but quite another not to support New Hampshire soldiers serving in harm’s way overseas,” Cullen said.
“Earlier this week Rep. Shea-Porter suggested that I personally enlist in the military. My concern is that Rep. Shea-Porter doesn’t support New Hampshire men and women who already wear the uniform, let alone those who might choose to do so in the future,” Cullen said.
MORE CONTEXT: “Shea-Porter has consistently called for a date-certain withdrawal of U.S.forces from Iraq. She also has said she would support cutting the flow of funds to pay for the war, which, she has said, would coincide with U.S.troops leaving Iraq. ‘After we deploy from Iraq, then we need to divert the money elsewhere, including addressing greenhouse emissions,’ she said. ‘I would never stop spending money on the troops while they are there, but I would stop the grossly mismanaged Halliburton-type projects and demand accountability from the contractors.’” (John DiStaso, “Bradley, Shea-Porter Spar OnDefense,” The Union Leader ,October 11, 2006)
But In A Forum Last Night At Saint Anselm College, Shea-Porter Said That She Supports Cutting Funding For The War. “Freshman U.S. Rep Carol Shea-Porter yesterday came out in support of cutting funding for the war in Iraq, saying such a move was possible without leaving U.S. armed forces unprotected. ‘As long as we're protecting the troops, and I insist that we do that, I think we can do both,’ Shea-Porter said at the NewHampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College, in a forum sponsored bythe Goffstown Democrats.” (Stephen Beale, “Shea-Porter Supports IraqFunding Cuts,” The Union Leader ,February 23, 2007)
