Congresswoman Shea-Porter's Response to the President' s Veto

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter released the following statement in response to President Bush's veto of the Iraq Accountability Act:

"For four years the President has told us that we are making progress in Iraq. What war is he watching? Who does he talk to? He clearly is not listening to our generals on the ground."

"As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have heard hundreds of hours of testimony from top American military leaders. They say that there will be no military victory in Iraq - that there will have to be a political solution. They say that our Armed Forces are at the breaking point."

"We all want a strong and effective military. We all want to fund the troops. Congress and the American people just don't want to fund the President's war any more."
