At Tuesday night’s Board of Alderman meeting, the majority of Aldermen showed themselves to be incredibly short-sighted when voting on the city budget. While I applaud the Aldermen for finally recognizing that the citizens of Manchester can not take exponential tax increases year after year, their solution to the problem is fool hardy.
While they’re patting themselves on the back for a tax cut triple what the Mayor proposed, they’re failing to ask themselves, “what about next year?” With this short-sightedness, the Democrat majority seem to be unable to recognize that this “band-aide” will only cause a quadruple tax-increase next year to fill the gap.
Thankfully, Mayor Guinta has the ability to look ahead to the bigger picture. His kind of commonsense did not appear to be so common amongst the Democrat majority on Tuesday night.
