N.H. Young Democrats Auction “2008 N.H. Presidential Primary Bookshelf”

Auction for One-of-a-Kind Book & Memorabilia Collection Autographed by All 2008 Democratic Presidential Candidates to Run May 31 through June 7 on eBay

CONCORD, NH - Political junkies, get your bidders cards ready. As a unique fundraising effort, the NH Young Democrats (NHYDs) have assembled an unprecedented collection of candidates’ books for auction, called the “2008 N.H. Presidential Primary Bookshelf.” An achievement perhaps only possible in New Hampshire, this bookshelf represents every Democratic candidate running for president in 2008.

The collection consists of the following books and memorabilia, each personally autographed by the candidate:
- Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 - Authored by Sen. Joseph Biden;
- It Takes a Village - By Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton;
- Political memorabilia - Autographed by Sen. Chris Dodd;
- Ending Poverty in America: How to Restore the American Dream - Edited by Sen. John Edwards et. al.;
- Citizen Power: A People’s Platform - By Sen. Mike Gravel;
- A Prayer for America - By Rep. Dennis Kucinch;
- The Audacity of Hope - By Sen. Barack Obama; and
- Between Worlds: The Making of an American Life - By Gov. Bill Richardson.

Proceeds from the auction will be used as part of the NHYDs fundraising efforts to bring the 2007 Young Democrats of America (YDA) Fall Conference to Manchester for the first time. Approximately 300 Young Democrats from across the country are expected to attend the convention in November 2007. Currently, the NHYDs are in the final stages of bringing the conference to their home state.

“We hope our fellow Democrats and poiticos will bid high on the Primary Bookshelf,” says Gray Chynoweth, President of the NHYDs. “By bringing the YDA conference to New Hampshire this fall, Young Democrats from across the country will see for themselves that New Hampshire citizens are politically active, engaged and that we take the responsibility of having the first presidential primary very seriously.”

The auction will be hosted on www.eBay.com (keyword “Primary Bookshelf”) and the bidding will start on Thursday, May 31st and run through Thursday June 7th. The NHYDs plan to publicize the auction at the state Democratic convention and the Democratic debate at Saint Anselm’s College.

“Anyone involved in politics at all would be thrilled to have this unique collection of political memorabilia on his or her bookshelf,” says Garth Corriveau, Treasurer of the NHYDs. “While no ones knows who is going to come out on top in the 2008 Primary, it’s a safe bet the highest bidder in this auction will have an autographed book from the next President.”
