Rain for Sahel & Sahara Documentary "From a Deep Well" to Run on Durham Community Access Television

Short Film about Newmarket Non-profit’s work in Africa by Ron Wyman, veteran of CNN and Michael Moore’s “The Awful Truth” and John Hanson, award-winning film director, will be shown on Durham ’s Channel 22 on February 3rd and 10th.

“From A Deep Well” tells the story of Rain for the Sahel & Sahara, a non-profit organization formed in 2001 by New Hampshire Niger , West Africa – the world’s poorest country - through locally developed programs in education, water resource development, agriculture, and AIDS awareness.These programs promote literacy and economic security while sustaining vital nomadic traditions.

The work that RAIN has done in the last five years – from building gardens at residential schools for nomadic children, to building wells in Niger’s arid regions, to organizing AIDS training for young adults– is summarized in interviews with RAIN’s Nigerien employees and volunteers, Bess, RAIN chairman John Ahlgren, and Niger experts including USAID and CARE officials as well as a former US State department official who was stationed inNiger.

This video, which runs, was filmed by Boston-based videographer Ron Wyman, a veteran of sixteen years of freelance work around the world including for clients CNN and Michael Moore’s award-winning series The Awful Truth . It was produced by Bess Palmisciano and John Hanson, director and principal of JHPix. Hanson, an independent filmmaker and Cannes Film Festival Best First Film winner, has released several feature films as well as television productions for American Playhouse and other public television series and specials. John’s works include Northern Lights , WildRose , Shimmer and Sisters .

“From A Deep Well” features breathtaking footage of Niger ’s beautiful ,Saharan dunes and the mountains of the Aïr Massif as background for the nomads of Niger and RAIN’s inspiring work in the desert environs of Niger .
