WASHINGTON, DC - Tonight marks the first Caucus of the 2008 Presidential election and the youth vote is not to be discounted. The number of voters in Iowa under the age of 30 totals 21 precent of the entire voting-age population. The Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) is urging all eligible Young Republicans to caucus this evening.
"It is our job in the YRNF to turn younger voters into life-long Republican voters," said Jessica Colón, YRNF Chairman. "In 2004, the National Election Pool Entrance Poll reported the youth vote counted for 17 percent of Iowa Caucus voters. This past weekend, we saw YRNF Secretary Monica Durrwachter and her team on the ground in Iowa delivering the Republican message. We want to see young Republican voters show up in droves to the caucuses to cast their vote for one of our Republican presidential candidates. Young Republicans will play a large role in determining the future of our Party by choosing its nominee."
"What is so great about the Iowa caucuses is that anyone registered to vote can attend and voice their opinion about who they would like to see as President. The caucus is a prime example of grassroots politics, keeping with the tradition of our forefathers. They allow their young Republican voters the chance to be the 'first in the nation,' to tell us who they want to see in the White House for the next four years," stated Catherine Brinkman, YRNF State Chairman Association Chairman.
Lisa Stickan, YRNF Midwest Regional Vice-Chairman said, "Today, young Republicans in Iowa have the opportunity to have their voices heard by casting their vote in the all-important caucuses. These young voters have the chance to make an impact in the presidential race by participating in this first step in the nomination process. I strongly encourage all young voters to go out to the polls to make sure our issues and our voices are heard to help impact this election."
Colón closed saying, "We urge all eligible young Republican voters to head to their local caucuses and vote today for one of our Republican presidential candidates. Our troops are fighting right now for our democratic process. Use your voice - vote!"
Since its creation, the YRNF has established itself as the premier Republican grassroots organization in the nation, providing essential grassroots support for Republican candidates and conservative issues on the local, state and national levels. The YRNF does not coordinate efforts or endorse candidates in Republican primary races.
The YRNF has a solid record of producing future Republican Party leaders - including Governors, Senators, Congressmen, nationally recognized campaign consultants, and community leaders.
