CONCORD – Fergus Cullen, Chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, made the following statement today:

“News that Democrats have overtaken Republicans in voter registration should be a wake up call for all Republicans, especially those who are bad at math,” said Fergus Cullen, chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party.”

“In order to win elections, Republicans need to broaden our message to include a broader set of issues. We need to talk about education, health care, and conservation, issues that are a higher priority to the independent voters who decide elections in our state. We can’t just be talking about taxes and social issues that appeal mostly to our base.”

“I am not saying that Republicans need to moderate our positions or move to the middle. We can and should continue to advocate conservative alternatives and free-market approaches on these issues that contrast to the Democrats’ big government philosophy. But if we want to win again, we need to talk about a broader range of issues.”

“Talk of Republicans becoming a permanent minority is grossly premature and not supported by the facts. The Republican Party today is no more dead than the Democrats were after their huge defeats as recent as 2002. They came back, and so will we.”
