CONCORD – New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen releases the statement below regarding the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Before leaving Washington for the long weekend, Democratic leadership in the House blocked a vote to extend the bipartisan program. As a result of their inaction, this legislation expired at midnight on Saturday.
“The FISA legislation protects American lives by allowing intelligence agencies to intercept threats to our security before they are realized. I am disappointed that Democrats in Congress would rather play politics than allow a vote on such a critical measure. By skipping town and allowing this legislation to lapse, Representatives Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter have shown they just don’t take the threat to our nation seriously. In particular, Shea-Porter’s hopeless naiveté in her recent comments is troubling given the role FISA plays in our intelligence capabilities. For the sake of our nation’s security, Hodes and Shea-Porter should get back to work and demand their party leadership pass this bill.”
