Washington , DC – On Friday, April 25th, AT&T announced that it would lay off 178 employees from the National Passport Information Center, which is operates on behalf of the U.S. State Department.
Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter released the following statement about the layoffs.
“My staff and I found out about the impending layoffs on Friday morning and we started working on this immediately. We have spoken with employees of the call center, AT&T representatives, and the State Department.”
“I hope AT&T will minimize the number of layoffs, and will make the terms of the layoffs as generous as possible. I have spoken to Governor Lynch and he assures me that state agencies are already making plans to help displaced workers get services and find jobs. I am monitoring the situation and will do everything possible to help.”
