Governor and DHHS Commissioner Honor Senior Volunteers in Statehouse Ceremony

Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services(DHHS) Commissioner Nicholas Toumpas will join with Governor John Lynch in a ceremony at the Statehouse Wednesday to honor Senior Volunteers with the Joseph D. Vaughan Awards. The State Committee on Aging (SCOA) and DHHS's Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services (BEAS) give the Vaughan Awards annually.

The awards recognize an individual or couple age 6o and older for outstanding volunteer efforts on behalf of the seniors of New Hampshire.

The awards will be presented Wednesday, May 14, at 1 PM in the Governor and Council Chambers. This award was initiated in 1962 to memorialize the Honorable Joseph D. Vaughan, a New Hampshire legislator and advocate who was instrumental in creating a state agency dedicated to the well being of senior citizens.
