New Hampshire Advantage Coalition looks to collect 4,000 signatures
Local New Hampshire Advantage Coalition members are organizing a Spending Cap Petition Drive for Saturday, May 31. The group will be meeting at Murphy’s Taproom, 494 Elm St., at 10:00am.
The goal is to collect the approximately 4,000 signatures necessary to get the Spending Cap Amendment to the City’s Charter on the November ballot. The spending cap would hold spending growth at no more than the rate of inflation, as defined by the Consumer Price Index, plus growth in population and allows for an override with a vote by two thirds of the Aldermen.
Coalition member Karl Beisel spearheaded a similar effort two years ago when approximately 6,000 signatures were collected but unfortunately the Attorney General’s office rejected the language in part because of the number of aldermen it required to override.
Anyone interested in either signing the petition or helping with the petition drive on Saturday can contact Tammy Simmons at 235-9998 or tsimmons@theNHadvantage.com or simply arrive at Murphy’s at 10:00am on Saturday.
