NRCC - Shea-Porter & Hodes are Out of Touch on Soaring Energy Costs

New Gallup Poll Fuels Debate Over Democrats’ Inaction at the Pump

Washington- As the national average for a gallon of gasoline hit an all-time high for the 22nd day in a row, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), Paul Hodes (NH-02) and Democrats in Washington have sat back and done nothing to offer relief at the pump. Republicans in Congress, meanwhile, have proposed a comprehensive reform policy that would increase the supply of American-made energy, improve energy efficiency, and encourage investment in groundbreaking research in advanced alternative and renewable energy technologies.

According to a recent Gallup Poll, 57 percent of Americans support expanding domestic energy exploration to help in addressing the nation’s energy crisis. However, Democrats in Washington refuse to support energy exploration that would increase the supply of oil in America, lower gas prices and reduce our dependence on foreign oil:
•    Democrats proposed $6.5 billion in new taxes on American energy producers, forcing even higher energy prices on American consumers.
•    Democrats propose increasing – not decreasing – America’s dependence on oil supplied by countries like Saudi Arabia.
•    Democrats admit their efforts to reduce U.S. oil consumption won’t have an impact until year 2020.
With gasoline prices approaching $4 per gallon, families are struggling and are in need of immediate relief from these soaring gas prices.  Americans will continue to pay more at the pump because Carol Shea-Porter, Paul Hodes and the Democrat-led Congress have not acted in a meaningful way to address rising energy costs.

“Another day of record setting gas prices has turned into another day of inaction by Carol Shea-Porter, Paul Hodes and the Democrat-led Congress,” said NRCC Press Secretary Ken Spain. “While voters are pleading for relief at the pump, Carol Shea-Porter & Paul Hodes are standing with their liberal Democrat leadership in Washington as they stand in the way of expanding domestic energy production. The numbers don’t lie. Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes are out of touch.”

Democrat leaders in Washington have not demonstrated a willingness to work across the aisle to take action on the issue of soaring energy costs threatening America’s financial and national security.  The American people are tired of waiting and they can no longer afford the broken promises and failed policies of the Democrat-led Congress.
