NRCC - Fellow Democrats Admit: Hodes Voted for “Massive Tax Hike at the Expense of Middle Class Americans”

Washington- According to some of Rep. Paul Hodes' more honest colleagues, Hodes (NH-02) voted with his Democrat leaders last week to pass the largest tax increase in American history. Hodes is now left standing on some shaky ground as some fellow Democrats in Washington even admit that Hodes voted to “[raise] taxes on the middle class.”

In their very own words, Hodes' Democrat colleagues, Reps. Bill Foster (D-IL) Harry Mitchell (D-AZ), admit that Paul Hodes and his liberal allies are attempting to not-so-secretly lay the groundwork for a reinstatement of the marriage penalty and a massive tax hike at the expense of middle class Americans:

Bill Foster (D-IL): “I can't support a budget, from either party, that raises taxes on the middle class. This bill hurts families all across the 14th District by eliminating the 10-percent bracket for lower-income taxpayers, reinstating the marriage penalty and increasing taxes on small businesses and investments.” (Press Release, 6/5/08)

Harry Mitchell (D-AZ): “…the plan did not satisfy his concerns about reversing middle-class tax cuts in the midst of an economic slow-down. ‘…I have serious concerns and cannot support a budget that allows key tax cuts to expire,’ said Mitchell.” (Press Release, 6/5/08)

“This admission by Democrats in Congress is an indictment of Paul Hodes' credibility when it comes to telling the truth about his tax-and-spend policies,” said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “This is the kind of blatant dishonesty that voters will come to reject in November.”
