Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Public Health Services (DPHS) will host the New Hampshire March of Dimes 5th annual Prematurity Summit on Friday June 13.
The Prematurity Summit will address smoking as a risk factor for premature birth and infant mortality through evidence based strategies for treating tobacco use and dependence. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the pre-term birth rate is 12.8 % of all live births in the US, that's more than 540,000 babies each year born premature. In NH, in an average week 280 babies are born, 28 are preterm. Speakers for the daylong event include Family Physician Dr. Rick Pollack, Epidemiologist David Laflamme, Director of Try-To-STOP Tobacco Resource Center Janet Van Ness and Representative Anthony Matarazzo.
