Office of Congresswoman Shea-Porter - Independence Day Statement

Washington , DC – Congresswoman Shea-Porter today released the following Independence Day statement:

Two hundred and thirty two years ago today, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress and thirteen tiny colonies became the beginning of a nation.

Distant relatives came together against incredible odds. Farmers and shop owners fought against an army—and prevailed. The story of the United States of America began.

This July 4th, we must remember those who have fought for and defended our country. It is because of their sacrifice America represents liberty and freedom throughout the world.

To our brave men and women serving in uniform and our heroic veterans—thank you for your service.

Happy Independence Day and God Bless America .”
