DENVER — In recognition of the growing power of the Internet and online video, now the primary source of news to millions of Americans, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced today the launch of “Countdown to America’s Future,” a series of daily webcasts about the 2008 Democratic Convention, featuring campaign officials and Convention insiders who know what’s happening behind the scenes and the inside scoop to watch for during each night’s televised Convention program.

Hosted by rising political stars and featuring key campaign officials, “Countdown” will be broadcast on DemConvention.com, Comcast’s Video On-Demand (VOD) and via satellite. U.S. Representatives Artur Davis (AL), Patrick Murphy (PA), Allyson Schwartz (PA) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL), rising stars in the Democratic Party, will serve as hosts for “Countdown,” with special appearances each day by Obama campaign senior staffers including Bill Burton and Linda Douglass.

“We’re committed to producing five hours of compelling Convention programming each and every night,” said 2008 Democratic National Convention Executive Producer Mark Squier. “‘Countdown’ is designed to give viewers the top headlines of each day to come out of each night’s program before we even gavel down the Convention. We’ll also feature exclusive sit-downs with the speakers who will take to the podium each night and go behind-the-scenes with campaign officials on the road to Denver with Barack Obama.”

The 15-minute long segments will air daily at 2:30 pm MT/4:30 pm ET beginning Sunday, August 24 through Thursday, August 28. Each episode will preview key themes of the coming night’s program, interviews with speakers and other Convention participants and provide viewers with exclusive behind-the-scenes news not available anywhere else. The series will also include reports from the campaign trail as Barack Obama makes his way to Denver. A final show will air at 7:00 am MT/9:00 am ET on Friday, August 29, and include highlights from Obama’s nomination acceptance speech at INVESCO Field at Mile High and analysis of the evening’s program.

Award-winning news producer Donna McNeely will lead the production of the show. Microsoft Corporation, the Convention’s Official Software and HD Web Content Provider, will assist with the show’s production. “Countdown” will be streamed in high-definition via Silverlight, Microsoft’s platform for interactive Web applications. The show will also be made available via satellite to newsrooms across the country.

Convention week episodes will originate from the DNCC’s Studio 08 facility at the Pepsi Center and on location around Denver. Studio 08 is a full-service, multimedia studio at the 2008 National Democratic Convention. The operation includes radio and satellite TV studios, photographers and online support that allow media across the country to conduct live and taped interviews from their homes states with elected officials and surrogates in Denver. On Friday of Convention week, “Countdown” will originate from INVESCO Field at Mile High.
