Concord, NH - Governor John Lynch will celebrate the passage of SB 390 on Thursday, September 4, 2008. SB 390 establishes a suicide prevention council (SPC) to oversee the implementation of the New Hampshire suicide plan. The signing comes in advance of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, which runs from September 7th - September 13th.
Suicide is the ninth leading cause of death in New Hampshire; one of the issues the SPC will be working on is suicide prevention among veterans and service members. Adjutant General Kenneth Clark will be in attendance to answer questions. This will also be an opportunity to hear from suicide survivor Representative Roger Wells. Governor John Lynch, Commissioner Nicholas Toumpas and Mike Cohen, Director of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will also be speaking at this event.
