As Part of a National Campaign Effort, AFSCME, Granite State Progress, NH Citizens Alliance, SEA/SEIU Local 1984, Sierra Club, Working Families Win and State Leaders Urge Sen. Judd Gregg to Support Major Obama Economic Recovery Plan to Create Jobs Now and Make America's Economy Stronger in the Future
Concord, NH – Amid a worsening economic recession that has left nearly 2 million Americans without jobs and over 2.5 million more without homes, a coalition of progressive and labor communities are running a local 'Jobs and Economic Recovery Now' campaign as part of a national campaign effort urging NH’s Senator Judd Gregg to support President Barack Obama’s plan to create millions of jobs now through smart public investments that will also ensure a stronger future for the American economy.
“President Obama’s bold economic recovery plan will pave the way for immediate job creation through solid and sound investments in health care, energy efficiency, transportation and education,” said Zandra Rice Hawkins, Executive Director of Granite State Progress. “Following 8 years of misguided economic policies that gave priority to tax breaks for multimillionaires and big corporations, the Obama plan will get America’s disappearing middle-class working again right away and make smart, long-term investments that will keep them working long after.”
Locally and nationally, the ‘Jobs and Economic Recovery Now’ campaign employs all of the tools of a traditional campaign, including a massive grassroots movement and paid advertising, to pass the economic recovery package in the House and Senate.
Following the House vote yesterday that passed the economic recovery package, the ‘Jobs and Economic Recovery Now’ campaign is launching TV and web-based ads targeting Sen. Judd Gregg. The ads are part of a national, $500,000 media buy airing in five areas – Alaska, Iowa, Maine, New Hampshire and Washington D.C. The New Hampshire ad airs on WMUR and cable tomorrow and will represent nearly $100,000.
“Granite Staters secured a victory this week when Representatives Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes helped pass the economic recovery package in the House,” said Jaime Contois, Director of Working Families Win. “The Obama plan creates jobs, jumpstarts the economy and reinvests in our communities. With a strong focus on energy, education and health care, these public investments will strengthen America now and into the future. Senator Gregg needs to heed the call of Granite Staters and put Americans back to work by supporting the economic recovery package.”
