SEIA Statement on Senate Passage of FY2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act

WASHINGTON DC – Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), released the following statement today following Senate passage of H.R. 3183, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010:

“Today’s vote in the Senate is great news for the Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Program and the industry as a whole. This bill allocates $225 million for solar energy research, development, and deployment -- $50 million more than was allocated for FY2009.  The bill also allocates $200 million for the Building Technologies Program, which includes development of solar heating and cooling technologies.

“The boosting of DOE’s solar energy and building technologies programs is another indication of Congress’ and the Administration’s commitments to expanding the U.S. solar market and returning the U.S. to its rightful place as the global leader in solar.”

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 3183 on October 1. The bill will now go to the President’s desk for signature.
